How to Draw

My Drawing Process

When drawing for my videos, you will see that I make a rough sketch first. The pencil I use mostly is a mechanical pencil (similar to the one pictured above) with a 4B graphite lead. What is a 4B lead? Well, your yellow school pencil has a HB lead. The grading goes from HB to 2B, 3B, then 4B. The higher the number, the darker the lead gets. I can use a HB to sketch as well, but it will be lighter and will be harder to pick up on camera for you to see.

Sketching and Designing

The sketching is also my designing process, since I want to draw it in my own way or style. Depending on the characters I am drawing, I might spend more time shading to make a more complete drawing. With sketching, it can get messy. So to clean up my sketch lines, I use a kneaded eraser because it works better with darker and softer pencils like the 4B that I use. With a kneaded eraser, you just dab the eraser onto the paper and it will lift the graphite off the paper. I prefer it over a regular eraser because it will not smear your drawing. Picture on the left is an example of a kneaded eraser. You can buy it anywhere and it is very  inexpensive.

Sharpie Inking and Paper

Once the sketch is done, I go over the sketch with a sharpie on a marker paper to show you how to draw it too. Sharpie works well as the lines are nice and thick so you can easily see it on camera. Keep in mind that Sharpies uses permanent ink, so be careful not to get it on your clothing. Also with Sharpies, if you can, use marker papers to draw. Marker papers are made for wet media and prevents the ink from going through the paper. It is what I use in my drawing videos.

And lastly, in each drawing, I always try to find the easier way for you to draw it. So hopefully your drawing will look just as cool.
