Tips on Drawing Dinosaurs

Here is a great tip for anyone trying to draw a dinosaur or anything with legs and arms. If you are drawing it from the side, like a lot of my dinosaur drawings are, it will be a lot easier to draw all the arms and legs if you draw the ones closest to you first. Then once you have those drawn, drawing the arms and legs on the other side is easy, especially since they are partially hidden by the body. Also, make the arms and legs do different things, like one arm reaching out, or one leg going back. These simple poses will give your dinosaur a lot more action and life.

Lastly, on drawing the tail, which many dinosaur has, It is important to vary the poses on them. If you look at a dog of cat’s tail, they are never straight. So keep the tails curvy. Keep in mind that the pose of their tail helps to communicate their emotions. Is your dinosaur in an attack mode, or are they friendly? We can draw their tales to communicate that.

Tips on Coloring Dinosaurs

Dinosaurs usually have varied skin textures. Best way to color them is to fill in the skin with a basic color first. Then go over it with a darker color to add in the textures. Whether it is scales, spikes, or just skin color variations, adding a darker color will really bring the skin to life. You can even use a different color over it and it will blend in to make interesting textures. Make sure to leave the belly a lighter colorĀ  as a lot of dinosaurs have different belly skin colors.

Fun Facts About Dinosaurs

Tryannosaurus rex in one of the largest dinosaurs to have walked the earth. Lived 68 million years ago, it stands at 15 to 20 feet tall. Their jaws are so powerful that is crush a car! The T-Rex is probably the most popular dinosaur. I still remember the incredible scene in the Jurassic Park movie when it first appeared. Thanks for Spielberg, we felt the power of the T-Rex!

The Indominus rex is a fictional dinosaur created for the Jurassic World film. It was genetically engineered by scientist, and suppose to be a cross between a Tyrannosaurus rex and a velociraptor.

Spinosaurus was among the largest of all known carnivorous dinosaurs. It is said to be larger than the T.rex. Spinosaurus, strangely enough, is also a fish eater, making them a hunter on land and sea. Though they only hunted for fish on shorelines.

The Allosaurus is similar to the T.rex but lived from 155 to 145 million years ago. They were considered to be at the top of the food chain. The name “Allosaurus” means “different lizard.”

Hammerhead sharks are fierce predators but are generally not aggressive toward humans. The strange shape of their head, with the eyes wide apart from each other, gives them much better vision. Also in their head, they have sensory organs that detects the electrical fields of other animals, giving them the ability to find their prey even when buried under the sand.
